Members of the Lancaster Professional Fire Fighter's Association came together today to provide a much needed helping hand to a Local family. The Fire Fighter's association, as part of their partnership with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, built a wheelchair ramp for Brianna Price, a 9 year old Muscular Dystrophy patient sponsored by the LPFFA.
Muscular Dystrophy is a genetic disorder characterized by muscular degeneration and the loss of the patient's ability to control their movement.
Brianna was diagnosed with MD two years ago, and has reached the point where a wheelchair and walker are regularly required to aid in her mobility. Unfortunately the Price family's home was not constructed with the needs of an MD patient in mind.
When Lancaster City's Fire Fighters learned of Brianna's need for help, they immediately offered to build a ramp to help her. Fire Fighter Scott Slaymaker coordinated the effort, and was joined by FF Tom Bender, FF Tristan Dressler, Lt. Donald Braun, and Battalion Chief Duane Hagelgans.
Compleat Restorations, a remodeling and disaster restoration company located in Ephrata donated the materials to build the ramp.
When asked how she felt about the efforts to provide her with the ramp, Brianna said "it's pretty cool."
