Updated On: Sep 29, 2009 (13:30:00)

8/28/09  Fire Fighters from C Platoon responded to a reported structure fire in the 700 block of Rockland Street today, and discovered a working fire in the basement of a home there.

Lancaster County Communications received a 911 call reporting an explosion and fire from the home, located in the middle of the row.  Upon arrival, personnel from Engine 3 entered the property and discovered a heavy smoke condition throughout the structure.  Engine 3 advanced a hoseline through the first floor of the structure, and located a working fire in the basement.

The fire was suppressed by Engine 3, while Engine 2 and Truck 1 personnel conducted a search of the structure.  Truck 2 ventilated the building and shut off gas to mitigate explosive hazards.

Fire investigators from Lancaster City's Fire Marshal Division determined that the fire was caused by a candle left burning unattended in the basement.
